It’s really something when London is in calm chaos. It’s not an untidy, unruly chaos, but calculated and ordered like an operation. On my way to pick up lunch yesterday the skies were filled with the chopping blades of helicopters. Over and out they appeared above the high rise office buildings. The roads stood still with traffic, the only movement being a rush of 4 police vans in a row. One, two, three, four, their sirens blaring much louder than they should. The forces were out just keeping an eye on the public sector demonstration held at Embankment, which was part of the biggest strike in decades. Should have anything, a foot out of line, a strike of anger, anything at all have gone amiss, then they were already there. Just in case.
